SUMMER HOMEWORK CHALLENGE

Dear parents and carers,

We hope you all have a lovely holiday and that we have great weather for the duration. The holidays are a time to recuperate after a busy year, spend time with family and friends as well as enjoy being outside (safely!).

We have set a whole school homework of practicing to tell the time. There is no specific task and nothing needs to be recorded but please just spend time practicing reading the time. This has been an area that most children have struggled with and is therefore crucial children practice outside of school. I have attached a poster to break down the expectations for each year group.

As teachers we find that if children do nothing academic over the 6 week period they do tend to slip backwards in their attainment. Please therefore encourage your child to keep reading over the summer. We have told them about the summer reading challenge and more information can be found here: Summer Reading Challenge. The aim is to read 6 books over the holidays and you can register online or at the local library. We challenge you to catch your child reading 6 books and take a photo of them that we can add to our reading display. What’s the wackiest reading position? I wonder how far away we can be snapped reading? The possibilities are endless! Get snapping!

I have also attached a documents which containers some summer tasks (The folder is for the year group they are in from September. So a current year 5 will look at the year 6 folder) In each folder you will find:

· A moving on to year 1 English book (designed by the Cambridgeshire local authority English team)

· A moving on to year 1 Maths book (designed by the Cambridgeshire local authority Maths team)

· Spellings for the year group they are moving into

· Spellings for the year group they have just left

Children should also keep the times tables alive! Whether this is chanting in the car, accessing TTRS or quick fire questions over breakfast.

None of these tasks are mandatory and nothing is expected back in school. These tasks are designed to make sure your child gets off to a flying start in September. A little here and there really will help.

Have a great summer, dip in as you are able and have fun.

Kind regards

Miss Mosley
